The Technical Reference Model
Summary
1. Reference
Model Document & Presentation:
The INFOCITIES Consortium have tried to clarify the
technical concept required to express the services to ensure
their intercompatibillity and interoperability. When this is
not possible, INFOCITIES has identified indirect means to
ensure a minimum of understanding of the purpose of the
service, or to ensure a minimum service.
The reference model is the tool to analyse and guide the
development and the evolution of the services and of the
infrastructure that is used or will be used. Trade-of
between on the one hand off-line and on-line services and on
the other hand multimode services are also explained.
2. Results
of the Questionnaire of the Reference Model &
Analysis:
From the returned Questionnaires it has become
clear, that 4 of 7 cities have Enhanced Mode services. 1 is
now in planning phase, and three have none. 1 has ADSL, 3
have access to the internet using Cable technology. All
documents that were sent back are given and a analysis is
made.
3. Intelligent
Agents Presentation:
The Intelligent Agent technology is a very powerful
candidate for enhancing the services as well as in their
power as in conviviality. In WP 3 an investigation has been
done as to whether INFOCITIES services could migrate to
Intelligent Agent empowered services.
4. Results
of the Questionnaire of Intelligent Agents &
Analysis:
Although the applications on most servers are
promising with regard to the potentiality of Intelligent
Software Agents the majority of the correspondents tend to
either hold back or show great uncertainty towards Agents.
The low response to the questionnaire probably is as well as
the mentioned uncertainty a clear sign that most
organisations are not ready yet.
The trends in the the virtual world show however that the
future will undoubtedly show a lot of agents willing to
proove their right to exist, to live. Huge acquisitions and
investments are made by the larger companies (e.g.
Microcsoft which recently bought firefly). These companies
do not want to miss out on this, they want to be sure to be
active agents in the field when the rest of the world is
getting ready for it. All documents that were sent back are
given and a analysis is made.
5. Various
Information:
Also various related information is available:
Hyperlinks to Technical Resources are given, a Presentation
on IPR of Guy Marechal is given, advice that result form our
experiences in WP 2 is given and Credits.
